Guatemala implements OAS-Country Agreement in Santo Tomas Castilla Maritime Customs

Continuing with the development of foreign trade facilitation, Guatemalan authorities announced on Wednesday (24.04.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) the implementation of the Interinstitutional Agreement on the figure of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)– with a country vision – at an event organized by the National Port Company Saint Thomas of Castile (North coast of the Atlantic Ocean).

Through an official statement, the Guatemalan authorities explained that such inter-institutional action will be carried out by the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) and the Ministries of Government, Health and Agriculture"The objective is to coordinate inspections of merchandise from AEO-authorized companies in the importer or exporter category, streamlining and prioritizing service and dispatch times," they said.

They stated that the following phases will incorporate the customs offices of Puerto Barrios and Puerto Quetzal. They estimated that, by 2025, the AEO-Country Agreement will be applied 100% by customs in the Republic of Guatemala.

At the national level, the Central American country has 3 Customs offices in seaports, 3 Customs offices at airports, 3 integrated land Customs offices within the framework of the Guatemala-Honduras Customs Union and 12 Customs offices in ports or integrated border posts.
