Meat exports grew 45% in January

-

The figure represented an increase of 16% compared to December of last year, and was due to "the expansion of shipments of frozen meats," explained ABC president Mario Ravettino in a statement.

According to Ravettino, sales to China showed a recovery compared to December, while there were increases in shipments to Israel and Russia.

"The ban on Brazil, which came into effect on 1 December 2017, has facilitated the access of alternative suppliers to the Russian market, which has benefited our country," Ravettino said.

According to the leader, "even though the volume sent is low, it practically triples the exports of the previous period, which had already seen a significant increase."

Based on this, exports of Frozen boneless meats in January destined for China closed at 11.491 tons, while 2.592 tons were sold to Israel and 1.635 tons to Russia.

Regarding the Boneless chilled meats, total sales were 5.552 tons, whose two main destinations were the European Union, with 2.959 tons, and Chile, 2.036 tons..

"Exports of chilled meats decreased as a result of lower shipments to the European Union, which coincided with a decrease in Chile; these two markets account for 90% of the sector," explained Ravettino.

In terms of values, January closed with sales of US$ 131.706.000, a 36% higher than the same month in 2017 and 6% compared to December.

Despite the increase in prices, ABC said that "the average price of exports fell, which is directly linked to the greater share of frozen meats, with a lower unit price. At the level of the different markets, there were no significant variations."

If offal is taken into account, which ended last month with exports reaching US$ 29,67 million, the figure increases to US$ 161.380.000.

“Exports of bovine offal accompanied and also registered a positive sign: they added 15.6 thousand tons that reported almost 30 million dollars, a record figure for this sector, due to the Strong demand from Russia and Hong Kong,” Ravettino said.

Finally, in the first month of 2018, the goal was met 57,5% of the Hilton Quota contingent for the 2017/18 financial year, with more than 2.700 tonnes certified throughout January.
