14 bottles of liquid marijuana pretending to be vehicle oil are prevented from entering Chile

The National Customs Service of Chile detected and prevented the entry of liquid marijuana, a prohibited substance coming from Miami by air, as officially reported this Friday (17.02.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The merchandise appeared to be a Loading bottles with vehicle oils which was entering the country destined for a home in the Metropolitan Region. Thus, based on the work of the expert teams from the Risk Analysis Unit (UAR) of the Customs of that region, it was possible to raise the alert regarding the true content of each of the bottles.

Chilean Customs explained that when reviewing the 14 containers A resinous substance was identified, which when subjected to field tests resulted positive for the presence of liquid marijuana.

Furthermore, the Director (S) of the Metropolitan Customs, Maria Jose Rodriguez, stated: “This discovery is unique in that it is an import of general merchandise, with all its documentation in order. Despite this, our intelligence system was able to detect it and the physical inspections confirmed the preliminary alerts.”

It should be noted that the Metropolitan Customs Office is the first barrier in terms of detecting the entry of specific types of drugs into the country.

In fact, during 2022 alone, its inspectors were able to prevent the entry of more than 20 different types of drugs. Among them, the seizure of synthetic drugs stands out, which are regularly stopped in postal or courier shipments entering the country. 

In this regard, the Deputy Director of Customs Enforcement, José Luis Castro, indicated that "in all our customs offices we have deployed special operational plans and training so that our teams that guard the maritime, air and land borders are up to date with the various modus operandi that organized crime uses to attempt new ways of bringing illicit substances into the country."

After the shipment, Customs said that "following instructions from the Pudahuel Prosecutor's Office, belonging to the Western Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office, the bottles were made available to the Investigative Police for the performance of various procedures aimed at finding the organization."
