On Thursday (9.5.2019) Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie presided over a ceremony at the San Martín Palace in which the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a government financial agency of the United States, formalized the approval of a US$45 million loan to the Argentine company Plaza Logística.

The financing obtained will contribute to the construction and expansion of the capacity of the company's logistics parks by 176.000 m2, an initiative that involves a total investment of US$ 76 million.

“The signing of this instrument reflects the importance of everything we have worked on and highlights the bilateral relationship between the United States and Argentina, which covers a wide range of topics on the agenda, with a three-and-a-half-year dialogue built with maturity, sincerity and a vocation for cooperation.”, the chancellor assured.

The event was attended by the United States Ambassador to Argentina, Edward Prado; the Under Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Kimberly Breier; and the Director of Operations of OPIC, Ryan Brennan. Also present were the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser; the Secretary of Entrepreneurs and SMEs, Mariano Mayer; the President of the Argentine Agency for Investment and International Trade (AAICI), Juan Pablo Trípodi; and the Executive Director of Plaza Logística, Eduardo Bastitta Harriet.

Faurie highlighted at the event "the materialization of the six Letters of Intent that we had signed with OPIC in November of last year, which are focused on strategic sectors to increase Argentine competitiveness".

"We have always found from the administration of President (Donald) Trump an attitude of support for all the measures taken by the Argentine Government and recognition of the reforms carried out by President Macri”, the minister stressed.

It should be noted that Plaza Logística SRL currently operates 7 Class A logistics parks in Greater Buenos Aires, with a total area of 230.000 m2. Its clients include renowned companies such as Mercado Libre, Kimberly-Clark, SC Johnson, ABB, Bridgestone, DHL, Dafiti, Kuehne Nagel and Natura.

Currently, OPIC is considering twenty other major projects in Argentina, which demonstrates confidence in the recovery of the national economy and the development opportunities it offers.
