The National Government updates the regulations of the Comodoro Rivadavia Free Trade Zone

The National Government has approved and updated the new Regulations for the Operation and Functioning of the Comodoro Rivadavia Free Trade Zone, in the province of Chubut, in Argentine Patagonia.

This is established by the Resolution 1363 / 2024, published this Thursday (12.12.2024) in the Official Gazette. This measure responds to a formal request from the Surveillance Committee of the Comodoro Rivadavia Free Trade Zone, which requested to modify article 1 of the original regulation, approved in 1996. The objective of the request is expand the physical space of the area, based on strategic conditions that seek to position the region as a hub for trade and export.

According to the comments of the resolution of the Ministry of Economy, this expansion will allow to optimize logistics costs, streamline administrative procedures and strengthen industrial sectors such as metalworking, food, naval and fishing. In addition, the expanded free zone will offer support for hydrocarbon supply and will promote research and technological innovation activities.

To this end, the new regulation redefines the areas designated for commercial and industrial operations, incorporating strategic annexes in the port of Comodoro Rivadavia, the General Mosconi International Airport and the city of Trelew. This update is expected to boost the Competitiveness in the context of the Bioceanic Corridor, which connects the ports of Comodoro Rivadavia, in Chubut (Republic of Argentina), and Puerto Chacabuco, in Region XI (Republic of Chile).

The provision will come into force effective December 13, 2024, the day after its official publication.
