Argentina's economy grows 2,9% in 2017, the best result in 6 years

Argentina's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2,9% in 2017, after having registered a fall of 1,8% corrected in the previous year, INDEC reported on Wednesday (21.03.2018).

With this level of economic activity, the Government would avoid paying the coupons on debt tied to GDP, since it does not reach the 3,0% limit set. In any case, the data, which shows the highest annual growth since 2011, must be reviewed before determining whether payment is made.

"The aggregate demand component that led growth in 2017 was investment, with 11,3% (…) Private consumption also showed significant growth of 3,6% during the year," said a source from the Ministry of Finance.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, GDP grew by 3,9% year-on-year, compared to the previous quarter by 1,0%, according to the official institute.
