The dredging work on the Uruguay River is progressing in its final stage, according to the planned schedule, declared the president of the Uruguay River Administrative Commission (CARU), Gastón Silbermann. The successful bidder, Jan De Nul, from Belgium, will also be in charge of maintenance for the next three years, which will ensure commercial navigation on the Uruguay River until 2021, according to the Government of Uruguay.

The contract between the successful bidder and the Uruguay River Administrative Commission (CARU) It will guarantee navigability between the cities of Nueva Palmira and Fray Bentos, at 23 feet of navigation (25 feet deep).

The works will include the access channel to the Argentine port of Concepción del Uruguay and those located between kilometers 187,1 and 206,8 in the port of Paysandú, at 17 feet of navigation. The binational organization acquired 120 buoys to be incorporated in this phase of the works, of which 42 arrived in recent days at the port of Montevideo. The commission invested an amount close to 1,5 million dollars in these implements that will facilitate navigation on the Uruguay River.
