Uruguayan Customs Director visits border crossings with Argentina, adjusting control measures

The National Director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, visited on Thursday (11.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) some border crossings that connect the Eastern Republic of Uruguay with the Argentine Republic, adjusting control measures, official sources reported.

According to Uruguayan Customs, Borgiani spent several hours in the town of Paysandu (bordering the Argentine city of Colón in the province of Entre Ríos) and Fry Bentos (connected to the Argentine city of Gualeguaychú in the province of Entre Ríos by the General San Martín International Bridge).

During this visit, the head of the Customs Office was accompanied by the Manager of the Customs Operational Management Area, Luis González, and his team, according to official information.

There, the customs authorities recalled that "The merchandise that enters Uruguay cannot exceed the 5 kg per person«.

Seizures

In procedures carried out in the last few hours, in the Integrated Control Area of ​​the San Martín International Bridge, various merchandise (groceries, personal hygiene items, cleaning products, household products) and an 85” GLED TV were seized.

These goods were seized from Uruguayan citizens (They were not tourists nor did they have the status of border citizens.) and Argentines entering the country.

The 85” QLED TV has a market value of US$3500, and the other merchandise has a value of US$2500, totaling US$6000.

From January 1st to April 30th of the current year have been carried out 300 seizures of various general merchandise, including 8 vehicles, where the value awarded was US$ 480.000.
