With the motto “In Central America We Continue Working for Trade Facilitation” the event was held in Guatemala from May 08 to 09, IV National Workshop of consultation for the Update of the Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness Strategy, with emphasis on coordinated border management, SIECA reported.

The activity, coordinated by the Ministry of Economy of Guatemala (MINECO) and the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT-G), aimed to collect, in an assertive and participatory manner, the main elements for updating the Strategy.

It is recalled that such a Strategy is the result of a multidisciplinary work, carried out by the Central American countries, through the Trade Facilitation Group and the forums of Directors, Vice Ministers and Ministers of Economic Integration, with the technical support of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) and the accompaniment of cooperating partners such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank (WB).

In view of the above, the following participated in the national workshop: officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAGA), and other competent authorities of sanitary and phytosanitary measures, customs services, security, migration and transportation, as well as the private sector and representatives of Advisory Committee for Economic Integration (CCIE), involved in the commitments involved in the implementation of the Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness Strategy.

This Strategy encourages countries to implement a regional IT platform for the integration of information and processes for customs, immigration, and single-window management. According to SIECA: “This digital tool will contribute to trade facilitation and regional economic integration.”
