This Wednesday, the Embassy of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay in Argentina, with the support of the Cervantes Theater, commemorated the birthday of actress China Zorrilla in the María Guerrero Hall. Zorrilla would have turned 14 on Thursday, March 97.

Today's meeting at 18:15 p.m. at Libertad 815 is taking place within the framework of the launch of the 2019 Uruguayan Culture Season which will be attended by the Minister of Education and Culture of Uruguay, María Julia Muñoz, the Argentine Secretary of Culture, Pablo Avelluto, the actresses Soledad Silveyra and Estela Medina, the director Carlos Carnevale, José Medina Zorrilla representing China's family, and the Uruguayan journalist and biographer of the honoree, Diego Fischer, as moderator.

The meeting will take place in the emblematic Cervantes theatre where Zorrilla said goodbye to the stage in 2012 when she turned 90, performing "Las D' Enfrente" by the Argentine playwright Federico Mertens.

There will also be a screening of a video that begins with a recitation by China of a fragment of "Milonga para los orientales" by Jorge Luis Borges, and other archive images provided by the artist's family.

The tribute to Zorrilla's 97th birthday will include the placement of a plaque on Thursday at the house on Uruguay Street, one of his homes in Buenos Aires.
