Foreign tourism falls 20,3% in January

The number of Argentine residents who traveled abroad by air in January, 376.753 people, decreased by 20,3% year-on-year, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec) reported in a report.

76,7% of the flights departed from Ezeiza International Airport in the province of Buenos Aires and from Jorge Newbery Airport in the city of the same name.

The number of non-resident tourists using these airports to travel abroad decreased by 23,3%.

On the contrary, the arrival of foreign tourists to Argentina, which totaled 339.176, increased 25,7% year-on-year. 

"Ezeiza and Aeroparque accounted for 89,3 percent of non-resident tourist arrivals, with a year-on-year increase of 22,6 percent," Indec reported.

The predominant source of tourists was European, who totalled 84.300, 16,7% more than in the same month last year.

Brazil was the origin of 82.600 tourists, 46,5% more than the previous year.
