Argentine Customs learned about the inspection model applied at the Los Andes Land Port

A delegation from the General Directorate of Customs (Argentina) visited the Land Port of Los Andes (PTLA), in the Valparaíso region, to learn in detail how the management model of the only port of this type that exists in Chile works.

This was reported today (21.08.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) in a statement by the Chilean Customs, which detailed that the Argentine delegation was headed by Marcelo Kiener (from the AFIP-DGA trans-Andean) and integrated by officials from the Central Regional Customs Directorate, Mendoza Customs and the Infrastructure DirectorateOn behalf of Chile, they were received by Cristian Merino (Head of the Operations Department), Andrea Ortiz (Head of the International Affairs Department) and Mariano Gómez (Head of Inspection of the Los Andes Administration).

Also, at the meeting they were explained the operation of the PTLA, security measures and auditing processes were reviewed that are carried out in these facilities that are licensed.

This was complemented by a visit to the port's gauging platforms, where they were able to see first-hand how the entire inspection system operates and the various actors involved.

Various aspects were also reviewed to continue advancing in the digitization of processes which are part of coordinated border management.

Another of the relevant topics that were discussed was the importance of Exchange of information and intelligence work between both Customs Offices to more efficiently control foreign trade flows and address the various threats of transnational trade, such as organized crime.  

“This port is a strategic point for foreign trade, and our review focused on identifying opportunities to optimize logistics and customs operations. We focused on the strategic objective of the National Customs Service to facilitate and expedite foreign trade through continuous process improvement. This improvement not only involves reducing waiting times and costs for importers and exporters, but also the implementation of advanced technologies for the tracking and control of goods,” he said. Merino.

The working visit concluded at the Los Libertadores border crossing.
