-

The new integrated border complex in Chungará, Arica, located at more than 4.500 meters above sea level and close to Bolivia, begins operations this Friday (29.09.2017).

The statement says that the new infrastructure of 5 m100, had an investment of 2 billion pesos, and consists of 21 dependencies destined to the tasks of border control that are carried out in an integrated manner by the customs services of Chile and Bolivia.

The Ministry of the Interior and Public Security of Chile built this complex taking into account the integrated control agreements in force between Chile and Bolivia, so that the new infrastructure meets the necessary requirements for the controls of exit from Chile and entry to Bolivia in Tambo Quemado and the exit from Bolivia and entry to Chile in the new Chungará complex.

For the governor of Parinacota, Roberto Lau, the start of full operation of the complex is associated with the start of a double-header integrated control process. In this context, he indicated that “In the new Chungará complex, control is carried out on the exit from Bolivia and entry from Chile, just as in Tambo Quemado, control is carried out on the exit from Chile and entry into Bolivia."He added that this system stopped working four years ago, however, from now on its work will be indefinite and will continue over time.

The new building provides Greater convenience for both officials and users crossing the border, due to its high infrastructure standards, it has 19 windows for the control of private vehicles and buses, 22 windows for service for cargo vehicles with a fully roofed surface to withstand the extreme temperatures recorded in the area throughout the year and facilitates the inspection carried out by SAG and Customs on vehicles.

As for the rest of the officials, the complex has a cafeteria for food, lounges and recreation rooms, a kitchen and a living space for up to 90 officials from the different control services and the coordination team of the border complex.
