Peru: AEO operators facilitated exports worth US$160 million

-

Companies certified as Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) by the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) of Peru have carried out 2.149 export procedures so far this year, amounting to more than US$159 million, confirming that this program has become a tool that streamlines customs operations.

The OEA program, free certification, provides importing and exporting companies, customs agents and warehouses, facilities in its cargo control operations, simplification of procedures, direct links and personalized attention in Customs, as well as the status of a reliable operator with the United States, Uruguay, South Korea and the countries of the Pacific Alliance.

In 2016, Sunat eliminated the minimum annual export amount (US$ 3.5 million) to be accredited as an AEO, allowing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to obtain certification and, in this way, reduce their import and export operating costs.

Security

Sunat trained more than 200 representatives of companies certified as AEO in container security and inspection, in order to prevent contamination of the logistics chain by smuggling and drug trafficking mafias.

The workshop featured Speakers of the Customs-Business Partnership Against Terrorism program (CTPAT) of the United States Customs Administration, who were in charge of the topic “Container Inspection: Theoretical and Practical Application”, providing their extensive experience in foreign trade security.

This year, the customs agency has organized more than seven orientation sessions on specialized topics for AEO operators and foreign trade users, which have been attended by more than 1,000 people from various companies. Internal training.

There is also a training program for Sunat customs personnel, which in coordination with the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States and the Canadian Border Services Agency carried out, for the first time in Peru, a workshop on logistics chain security, in containers.

In this way, not only are efforts made to provide tools to foreign trade users in order to facilitate their activities and business development, but the improvement of the skills and abilities of Customs professionals is promoted so that they can streamline and simplify import and export procedures.
