Trade with Brazil grew 34,1% in May, but left Argentina with a deficit.

Trade between Argentina and Brazil experienced significant growth in May 2025, reaching a value of 2.860 million, according to the latest bilateral trade report from the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC). This amount represents an increase of 34,1% compared to May 2024, when bilateral trade had been $2.132 billion. In addition, compared to April 2025, trade grew by 11,4%, reflecting a positive dynamic in trade relations between the two countries.

Argentine exports to Brazil totaled 1.163 million in May 2025, with a year-on-year growth of 3,9%, breaking the negative trend of the previous two months. Compared to April, sales to the neighboring country increased by 19,6%.

For its part, Argentine imports from Brazil totaled 1.698 million, with a year-on-year increase of 67,4% and a preview of the 6,3% compared to April 2025.

According to the CAC, in May 2025, Argentina recorded a trade deficit of 535 million in its trade with Brazil, accumulating a negative balance of $2.451 billion in the first five months of the year. This result contrasts sharply with the surplus of $142 million recorded in the same period in 2024.

The growth in Argentine exports was driven by freight and special-purpose vehicles, aluminum, alcohols and phenols, and piston engines and their parts. Imports were dominated by passenger and freight vehicles, parts and accessories, and piston engines.

In this way, Argentina positioned itself in fourth place among Brazil's main suppliers, moving up one place compared to April 2025, behind China, Hong Kong and Macau, the United States, and Germany. Regarding Brazil's buyers, Argentina ranked in third place, after China, Hong Kong and Macao and the United States.

The report also indicates that Brazilian exports to the world decreased slightly by 0,1% in May 2025 compared to 2024, while imports grew by 4,7% year-on-year.
