Colombia and Uruguay advance in ALADI's Digital Certification of Origin by successfully completing the "Pilot Plan"

-

Colombia and Uruguay have successfully completed the "Pilot Plan" for the implementation of the Digital Certificate of Origin (COD), carried out between November 18 and December 17, 2024. Thanks to the positive results of this initial phase, Both countries have agreed to begin the official issuance and reception of Digital Certificates of Origin from March 3, 2025, according to the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI).

This implementation is part of the efforts of ALADI member countries to advance the digitalization and simplification of foreign trade processes. The COD is framed within the Economic Complementation Agreement No. 72, and its adoption represents a significant step towards modernizing business operations in the region.

With the inclusion of Colombia and Uruguay, significant progress has been made in ALADI's Digital Agenda, promoting greater regional integration. Currently, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Paraguay also participate in this initiative.

ALADI highlighted that joint work between member countries and its General Secretariat could facilitate the adhesion of more nations to this initiative in the future, thus consolidating the use of digital tools in foreign trade in the region.
