The Chilean Senate approved the Trade Agreement between Chile and Argentina, a project that will expand and deepen the legal instruments that currently govern both countries in commercial matters.
This new agreement, approved last Wednesday (9.1.2019), by 34 votes in favor and which is ready for presidential promulgation, complements the provisions already present in the Economic Complementation Agreement 35, between Chile and Mercosur, which dates back to 1996.
Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero expressed his satisfaction to journalists because this agreement "puts us in a position to integrate much more with Argentina, with whom we have a strategic relationship."
Through the new treaty, Argentina and Chile intend to expand and deepen the legal instruments which currently govern them in commercial matters, with provisions in areas as diverse as Investments, Services, Public Procurement, Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce.
The agreement improves and complements technical, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, as well as customs procedures. existing.
Chapters such as the environment are incorporated, work, gender, SMEs, cooperation and competition policy.
The agreement will generate concrete benefits for both countries, such as new business opportunities in services and public procurement., especially for SMEs and the commitment to eliminate “roaming” in telecommunications.
This is a more modern and balanced legal framework for development. and the protection of investments; greater agility and certainty in bilateral trade in goods and the creation of a space for cooperation in a novel area such as electronic commerce, among other matters.
