Central America: Honduran Alden Rivera Montes assumes the leadership of SIECA

Honduran Alden Rivera Montes was appointed today (April 29, 2026) by the Council of Ministers of Central American Economic Integration (COMIECO) as the new Secretary General of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) for the period 2026–2030. replacement of Francisco A. Lima Mena, Salvadoran, whose term ended after his administration began in 2021.

Rivera Montes assumed the position and settled in Guatemala, where the regional organization's headquarters are located. With this appointment, SIECA is once again led by a Honduran representative, following the tenure of [name missing]. Melvin Redondo (2017–2021), also from that country.

Profile of the new Secretary General

  • Industrial engineer from the National Autonomous University of Honduras, with postgraduate studies in Development Policies at Columbus University (Ohio, USA).
  • Extensive experience in the public, private and international sectors, including positions such as Secretary of State for Economic Development, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Investment and Trade Promotion, and Ambassador of Honduras to Mexico.
  • Experience in projects with the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as participation in multilateral bodies such as the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

SIECA is the technical and administrative body for the Central American economic integration process, comprised of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Its work focuses on customs modernization, trade facilitation, and regulatory harmonization, contributing to institutional strengthening and economic integration among the countries of the Central American isthmus, which connects North and South America.
