CAC: Export growth to the US in 2024 and surplus after 18 years

An analysis by the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC) revealed today (19.02.2025/XNUMX/XNUMX) that In 2024, Argentina's exports to the United States reached USD 6.395 million, which represented an increase of 13,2% compared to the previous year. Among the main exported products Crude petroleum oils stand out (31,2% of the total), naphthas excluding petrochemicals (3,3%) and non-sparkling wines together with grape must (2,9%).

On the other hand, Argentine imports from the United States totaled USD 6.163 million, reflecting a significant drop of 28,6% compared to 2023. The Goals imported products were liquefied natural gas (9,6% of the total), diesel oil (6,2%) and acids (2,7%).

Trade between the two countries during 2024 amounted to USD 12.557 million, 12% less than that recorded in 2023. This decline marked the second consecutive fall, consolidating a downward trend in relation to bilateral trade in recent years. However, despite the decline, trade between Argentina and the United States remains at high levels compared to previous periods.

Positive balance

A fact highlighted by the CAC is that the trade balance between Argentina and the United States registered a USD 232 million surplus in 2024, marking a historic milestone: "Argentina has returned to a positive balance with the United States after 18 years. The last time the country had achieved a surplus was in 2005, with a balance of USD 38 million.

In addition, Argentine exports to the US in 2024 reached their second highest value in history, only surpassed by the 2022 level by 4,6%. In that year, sales to the North American country amounted to USD 6.701 billion. In contrast, imports from the US fell considerably in 2024, falling 40,3% below the historical record reached in 2022, when they totaled USD 10.330 billion.

Finally, the CAC report highlighted that, in the period 1993-2024, Argentine exports accounted for 64,3% of bilateral trade growth, while imports from the US accounted for 35,7%. This performance reflects the importance of the US market for Argentine foreign sales and the impact of variations in foreign purchases on the country's trade balance.
