Costs are lowered to boost transshipment in Argentine ports

-

At the request of the authorities of the Port of Buenos Aires, the National Directorate of Migration has ordered a significant reduction in the immigration tax applied to ships that transfer cargo in the country.

This decision is part of the improved climate of dialogue and cooperation in river transport that has been promoted by the Foreign Ministry, both in meetings under the Agreement on River Transport on the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway and in bilateral negotiations, including the meetings with the Republic of Paraguay at the end of 2018. This measure addresses a claim made by the riparian countries of the Paraguay, Paraná and Uruguay rivers, to remove bureaucratic restrictions and reduce costs to boost exports in the region.

More than 90%

The reduction in the migration rate will be 90% in the Port of Buenos Aires and 99.2% in the remaining ports., will apply to vessels entering and leaving the country and transporting cargo to/from distances greater than 300 km. In addition to increasing the cargo transported on the Paraguay and Paraná rivers - the volume of which has increased by 477% in the last two years - this measure will generate more employment in Argentine ports and more competitive logistics.

Measures effective from March 1

The measure, which will come into effect on March 1 according to the Provision 850/2019, was promoted by the Logistics Board created by President Mauricio Macri. Authorities from the Port of Buenos Aires, the Undersecretariat of Ports, Waterways and Merchant Marine of the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Production and Labor participate in this space.
