Brazil, represented by Minister Mauro Vieira, received this Monday (15.04.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Diana Mondino, with the aim of reaffirming the strategic relationship between the two countries, bilateral cooperation and the continuity of common projects.
According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the ministers discussed trade, border infrastructure, cooperation in energy and defense, the Paraguay-Paraná waterway and regional integration.
At the meeting, the Argentine foreign minister stressed the "strategic nature" of the business relationship, and expressed our country's interest in signing, as soon as possible, the Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of the "Binational Commission for Trade, Investment and Economic Relations" proposed by Argentina last March. On the other hand, Mondino brought to his Brazilian counterpart the proposals of Argentine exporters, in relation to the difficulties that are registered with the Import Alert Regime (RAI) applied by Brazil.
According to the same source, the foreign ministers agreed to continue negotiations to regulate in a coordinated manner the border crossings and thus optimize its operation. In addition, Mondino expressed Argentina's interest in establishing a specific bilateral mechanism for permanent dialogue and bilateral cooperation on river matters that would allow for better use of shared water resources, and informed Vieira that our country would promptly present instrumental proposals in this regard.
In the field of peaceful uses of energy and technology nuclearMondino and Vieira highlighted the strategic bilateral relationship between the two countries, with the central role of the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC), which guarantees confidence in safeguards and is a unique bilateral institution in the world and of international recognition.
In terms of space cooperationThe foreign ministers reaffirmed their interest in moving towards the completion of the SABIA-Mar satellite project, which plans to launch two Earth observation satellites into orbit, one Argentine and one Brazilian.
Mondino stressed the need to strengthen the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), a trade bloc that also includes Paraguay and Uruguay, with Bolivia in the process of full accession.
During the visit, the Argentine foreign minister was received by Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services.
"Argentina is a partner, companion and friend of Brazil, with whom we have a close relationship for a long time and with opportunities for cooperation in all areas. The bilateral relationship between Brazil and Argentina is strategic and must be deepened," said the vice president.
During the meeting, Alckmin and Mondino again addressed the strengthening of MERCOSUR and regional integration, the expansion of intraregional trade and intra-bloc trade agreements.
