The national government held a meeting with the Chinese Customs on Tuesday (6.11.2018) within the framework of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) Fair, in Shanghai.

The Secretary of the Secretariat of Agroindustry of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, met with the Vice Minister of Customs, Li Guo, with whom he outlined a work schedule that sets priorities for the next meeting between the presidents of Argentina and China, at the G20 leaders' meeting, says the statement from the Ministry of Agroindustry.

China, strategic partner

"We must see China as an important and strategic trading partner, with which we must continue to strengthen our ties and exchanges to consolidate ourselves as the world's supermarket," said Etchevehere after the meeting. 

«These types of meetings help us to make strong progress in health protocols. y on the bilateral agenda with the aim of opening new markets, such as live horses, sheep and goats, pigs, cherries and honey, among other high-quality foods," said Etchevehere, who chairs the Argentine delegation in this country.

Meat plants and product intake

Officials discussed the possibility of creating a more streamlined system for approving meat plants for export, in the development of 20 soy flour plants, which are being analyzed; and in the entry of other products such as wheat, sorghum, pecans, and lemons.

"Argentina has the potential to continue increasing and diversifying its exports based on a shared agenda based on the complementarity of our economies and productive structures," said the head of the agro-industrial portfolio, who highlighted the recent opening of fresh blueberries last September.

Last May, the two countries signed protocols for beef to include chilled beef with and without bone, and frozen beef with bone, in addition to frozen boneless beef. In September, 26 bovine meat slaughterhouses, a cold storage plant and a poultry plant were opened.

Finally, they discussed working on a Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Cooperation in Food Safety Matters in the coming months to speed up the process of registering establishments.
