Airlines suspend flights with Boeing 737 Max aircraft

-

State-owned company Aerolíneas Argentinas announced on Monday evening (11.3.2019) that it has temporarily suspended flights operated with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft following two fatal accidents involving these models in less than five months.

The decision came after Argentina's Airline Pilots Association (APLA) ordered its members not to fly that model of aircraft.

“Aerolíneas Argentinas has decided to temporarily suspend the operation of the aforementioned aircraft, in order to guarantee the high safety parameters that characterize the company's operations”, the company said in a release.

Aerolíneas Argentinas is the only company in the country that operates these planes, which total five and are used for regional flights.

China and Indonesia grounded all Boeing Co 737 MAX 8 aircraft operated by their airlines on Monday as investigators recovered the black box from the crash that killed 157 people in Ethiopia.

In October, a similar plane operated by Indonesian airline Lion Air crashed shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, killing 189 people.

The Argentine company reported that since it began operating this type of aircraft in November 2017, it has carried out 7.550 flights “with complete safety and efficiency.”
