Mercosur Customs: Argentina warns of disruption of two international crossings in Mendoza

-

Due to the rains and snowfall in the Andes mountain range, the Argentine Government warned of the "interruption" of road traffic in the International Steps of Christ the Redeemer and Pehuenche in the Province of Mendoza, a key point for trade exchange between MERCOSUR countries.

In the letter that was sent on Monday (26.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) to the Customs of Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, it is reported that both Border Crossings are inoperative for at least least two (2) weeks, due to undermining and landslides on the roadway on the Chile side of the access route to the tunnel.

“Therefore, it is recommended to use Alternative steps, such as the Pino Hachado and Cardenal Samoré Border Crossings; as well as limiting direct transit operations," the text sent details.

In this regard, he explains that representatives of the Mendoza government, Ministries, Foreign Ministry and control agencies together with the General Directorate of Customs/AFIP held a meeting in order to coordinate contingency actions aimed at mitigating the impacts on the logistics of cargo transportation destined for Chile.

For this reason, the Argentine authorities request their MERCOSUR counterparts “cooperation to inform the Private Sector of this situation and to the rest of the actors in the supply chain that they deem necessary in their respective countries, so that they can plan alternative routes for the dispatch of merchandise," the official note adds.
