Chilean Customs digitizes franchise processing for return of officials' belongings

-

Within the framework of the digital modernization promoted by the Government of Chile, Customs digitized the application to avail itself of the benefits established in the Game 00.04 of the National Customs Tariff.

This initiative allows Chilean officials who return to the country to carry out online, in www.aduana.cl, the procedure that allows public employees, who provide services abroad, obtain authorization to import merchandise, personal effects, household goods, equipment and work tools acquired during the performance of their duties, free from the payment of taxes.

In this way the National Customs Service advances in its commitment to digitize procedures, facilitating access to benefits for various groups of users who will now optimize their time by submitting applications virtually.

For the National Director of Customs (S), Gustavo Poblete “This is another step of the Service towards digital transformation, which seeks not only to optimize processes to make them more efficient, but also to be a public body that is closer to people.".

The requirements to access this customs exemption, which allows the return of goods without paying taxes, are to have provided services abroad for one year or more and that the goods to be imported under this benefit do not exceed in FOB value 50% of the total remuneration in United States dollars received by the beneficiary during his/her stay abroad, with a minimum of US$5.000 and a maximum of US$25.000.

In cases of performance abroad for less than one year, the value of the goods to be imported may not exceed the total remuneration in foreign currency received for said commissions.

The benefit must be requested within a maximum period of 60 calendar days, counting from the date of the cessation of the duties abroad and, once granted, the goods must arrive in Chile within 90 days at the latest. Chilean officials or employees of international organizations can enjoy the benefit of this exemption only once.
