Within the framework of the meeting of the customs administrations of the region, this Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the following took place in Lima: VI Joint Customs – Private Sector Forum of the Americas and the Caribbean, under the motto "Customs protects society through vigilance and commitment."
The private sector plays a relevant role within the institutional structure of the World Customs Organization (WCO), having formal spaces for participation that allow it to contribute its vision on customs and international trade issues from a business perspective.
In this context, the forum was developed through the Regional Private Sector Group (GRSP) of the Americas and the Caribbean.
The meeting featured the participación from customs authorities in the region, chambers and associations of the private sector and international organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World BASC Organization, the Uruguayan Association of Customs Brokers, the International Association of Professional Customs Agents (ASAPRA), DHL and CARGODEC, among other actors in the international trade logistics chain.

According to the event schedule, the opening ceremony It was led by Mr. Jorge Freddy Gallo Alvarado, Deputy National Superintendent of Customs of the SUNAT (Peru) and WCO Regional Vice Presidency for the Americas and the Caribbean; from Mr. Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (OMA); and from Mr. Erik Moncayo, President of the Regional Private Sector Group of the Americas and the Caribbean.
Throughout the day, the forum addressed Topics such as the WCO SAFE Framework, trade facilitation, training and certification of economic operators, artificial intelligence applied to customs, sustainable trade and e-commerce.
Thus, the meeting was consolidated as a space for dialogue and cooperation between customs and the private sector, aimed at strengthening regional integration and promoting safer and more efficient international trade.
