Uruguay and Türkiye signed an agreement on mutual customs assistance

Within the framework of the European tour, the Foreign Minister of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Francisco Bustillo, and the Minister of Commerce of Türkiye, Mehmet Mus, signed the Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters, reported the National Customs Directorate.

The statement indicates that the Uruguayan Foreign Minister held a series of meetings in Turkey focused on strengthening cooperation, connections and bilateral trade between both countries. Thus, the ministers signed framework agreements that will enable collaboration between organizations and commercial chambers. This is the first visit by a Uruguayan Foreign Minister to that country.

In these circumstances, the aforementioned Agreement was signed and  Specific initiatives were assessed for the diversification of bilateral trade and the promotion of investments.

In addition, it was agreed that the first meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of the Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement will be held in Montevideo next November.

Finally, the Uruguayan Foreign Minister met with the CEO of Turkish Airlines, Bilal Eksi, where they expressed their mutual interest in working on the possible inclusion of Montevideo as one of the 315 destinations that the company offers in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

Bilateral trade between the two countries exceeds 200 million dollars annually, with a surplus balance for Uruguay, which in 2020 reached 106,8 million dollars.
