Uruguay joined the group of the most advanced digital governments

-

Uruguay became part of the Digital 7 (D7), the group of most advanced governments in this area, along with Canada, South Korea, Estonia, Israel, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Digital 7 is a group created in 2014 whose members are committed to helping each other and becoming increasingly better digital governments, more agile and efficient through exchange and joint learning.

New Zealand Minister for Digital Government Services, Claire Curran, present at the summit, said that the integration of Uruguay and Canada into the D7 ensures the maintenance of the group "as a resilient, relevant and robust forum for practical collaboration on how to drive truly digital nations", reported the Uruguayan presidency in a statemento.

"We take entering D7 very seriously and understand it as a great responsibility," he said, Juan Andres Roballo, the deputy secretary of the Presidency of Uruguay.

He also expressed Uruguay's interest in contributing to the group, based on the "equity" and "social inclusion" that characterizes the South American country and that has guided it throughout its digital policy over the last eleven years.

The development of connectivity, digital citizenship, programming from childhood, open government, standards and open codes, as well as people-centred government are the principles that guide Digital 7..

As a new member, Uruguay stands out for reducing the digital divide, for the implementation of the Ceibal Plan and for the progress in the digitalization of government services, as well as for its commitment to a close and open government.
