The Deputy Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Ricardo Treviño Chapa, addressed Customs-Ports cooperation on Tuesday (19.10.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the webinar organized by the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) and the Association of International Community Port Systems (IPCSA).
In your presentation, Treviño Chapa highlighted "The important role of Customs in border coordination”. He also mentioned “the flagship instruments developed by the WCO to support greater integration and cooperation between the various stakeholders, such as the Compendium of Coordinated Border Management and the Single Window, the SAFE Regulatory Framework, especially the pillar related to the Customs-Business partnership, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program.”
He stressed that “improved cooperation between all operators active at the border would facilitate the development of harmonised procedures and the exchange of information.” He added: “These aspects are clearly important within the WCO’s priorities for the future.”
“There is a need to build confidence in order to move towards establishing a coherent framework within which Customs can carry out controls while facilitating the movement of legitimate trade,” concluded the WCO High Representative.
The webinar featured the participation of experts such as Uwe Liebschner, Association of International Community Port Systems, and Rommel Edwards, from the government agency Barbados Port Inc.., who They agreed that cooperation is key to adequately address the challenges associated with the multiplicity of legislation, systems and information technology requirements, as well as the continuously increasing volumes of goods.
