Argentina: Winter holidays without fruit flies

-

Travelers prepare to enjoy their destinations for reunion, rest or recreation during the winter holidays in Argentina

In this regard, the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) launched the campaign "Protect just in case" in order to provide specific recommendations to travelers whose destination is the Patagonia, Mendoza or San Juann, fruit fly protected areas.

What is fruit fly?

The fruit fly is considered one of the most important pests economic for fruit and vegetable production in Argentina due to the damage it causes to the fruit and the associated economic losses.

For this reason, Senasa suggests that anyone traveling to these parts of the country Avoid transporting fruits – it is common for people to do this as a gift for relatives or to eat while travelling – since they can transmit the fatal plague.

Collaborating with supervision at phytosanitary posts (land and airports) is very important to protect Argentine fruit consumption, production and exports.

Senasa recommends: "Do not transport fruit, do not hide it, talk to the health agency staff to be informed."
