The cargo, certified and inspected by the health agency, left from the Euroamerica port complex, in the town of Campana, province of Buenos Aires, bound for the North American country.
According to the statement, a team of professionals from the San Pedro and Zárate offices, under the jurisdiction of the Buenos Aires Norte Regional Center of Senasa, inspected the operating procedures of the 3.300 pallets, which represents a total of 3.772 tons of fresh lemons.
"This shipment of fresh lemons to the United States is unprecedented and novel for the country since the merchandise is sent directly by cargo ship to the port of Philadelphia," he said. Guillermo Ruffo, Plant Protection Coordinator of the Buenos Aires North Regional Center of Senasa.
The official said that “the completion of this export required the intervention and coordination of the technical areas of Senasa at both the national and regional level.” And he explained the agency’s actions: “On the one hand, the operational procedure in port, proposed by the port terminal, was evaluated in order to comply with the work plan agreed with the United States, and on the other, the export operation was supervised at the point of departure, completing the phytosanitary certification process of the consignment, carried out at origin.” (Senasa Press Release)
