The presidents of Peru, Martín Vizcarra; and of Bolivia, Evo Morales; agreed to work together to make possible the border integration of these countries through the construction of the Central Peru – Bolivia Bioceanic Railway Corridor.
The agreement was reached during the bilateral meeting held by both heads of state, within the framework of the activities prior to the VIII Summit of the Americas that began this Friday (13.4.2018) in the Peruvian capital.
Both The governors expressed their intention to have the pre-investment works completed by the end of this year, and for investment to begin in 2019.
They indicated that it is urgently necessary to implement transport routes that achieve interconnection between both countries.
The leaders also They reaffirmed their willingness to open as soon as possible the Binational Border Care Center (Cebaf) Desaguadero, an important integrated control space at the border crossing between Peru and Bolivia., in order to facilitate the transit of people, goods and vehicles.
One aspect that motivated the The concern of the heads of state was the decontamination of Lake Titicaca, an important reserve located 3810 meters above sea level that preserves the region's wild flora and fauna.
In this context, President Vizcarra reaffirmed the Peruvian government's commitment to continue with the decontamination work on Lake Titicaca, through the implementation of the wastewater treatment system, in which 10 treatment plants will be built in the same number of Peruvian cities.
Both heads of state highlighted the good level of bilateral relations and welcomed the upcoming Presidential Meeting and IV Binational Cabinet of Ministers Peru – Bolivia, which will take place in the third quarter of the year in the city of Cobija, Bolivia.
