The delegations of Paraguay and Argentina met this Monday (13.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) in Buenos Aires, to advance the construction of a bridge over the Paraguay River that will connect the cities of Pillar (Paraguayan department of Ñeembucú) and Cano Colony ( Argentine province of Formosa).
The meeting took place within the framework of the XVIII Meeting of the Argentina-Paraguay Joint Technical Group, the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
According to the official text, the Paraguayan delegation made a presentation of the favorable implications of the construction of the aforementioned infrastructure. In this regard, it pointed out that there is great interest on the part of international financial entities in cooperating to finance the feasibility study and the construction of the bridge.
Meanwhile, the Argentine delegation reported that after the evaluations by the relevant agencies, it will submit its assessments on the project in question.
Also, in the afternoon, the second meeting of the technical table was held. Puerto Falcon bridge (Paraguayan territory) -Clorinda (in Argentina); on this occasion, the Paraguayan delegation once again confirmed its interest in the construction of a new bridge over the Pilcomayo River and reiterated that Paraguay is in a position to finance the feasibility study and the construction of a second bridge over the Pilcomayo that will link the cities of Puerto Falcón and Clorinda.
In this regard, he stressed the importance of building the physical structure as close as possible to the existing bridge, as this new one is intended to ease congestion at the border crossing and facilitate transit between the two cities.
Paraguay proposed the signing of an agreement between governments for each infrastructure project, in order to manage the financial and cooperation mechanisms to cover the expenses arising from them.
The national delegation was made up of the following institutions: the National Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Directorate of Migration, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, the National Directorate of Customs, the National Administration of Navigation and Ports, and the Embassy of Paraguay in Argentina.
