Through the Decree 136 / 2022, the Government decided to modify the list of tariff items exempted from the Common External Tariff (CET) for Information Technology and Telecommunications Goods (BIT), a measure that will come into force on March 15, 2023.
The normative resolution issued by the head of the Executive Branch, published today (14.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the Official Gazette, aims to "strengthen the industrial sector in question" raising them from zero to 8% and 16%, depending on the case.
According to the decree, it is raised to 8% the rate of tariff item 8471.30.12, which includes units "weighing less than 3,5 kilograms, with an alphanumeric keyboard of at least 70 keys and with a screen area greater than 140 square centimeters and less than 560 cm2", and the same percentage for positions 8471.30.19 and 8471.30.90, classified as "others" in the Common Nomenclature of Mercosur (NMC)".
«In the same vein, it is appropriate to modify the applicable rate for Extra-Zone Importation Rights (DIE) in relation to the tariff position of the Common Nomenclature of Mercosur 8471.30.11, setting it at a level of 16%", the official text added.
The decree is part of the exceptions to which MERCOSUR member countries belong to reduce or eliminate the tax rate on various goods necessary for production, including those related to technological products and which are included in the List of Information Technology and Telecommunications Goods (BIT).
