Countries in the region concluded the meeting of the Global Container Control Program

-

Delegates from 22 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean concluded on Friday (17.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the VIII Regional Meeting of the Global Container Control Program (CCP), which took place in the city of Montevideo.

Uruguay hosted the international meeting that took place during four days, with the aim of strengthening coordination between countries and continuing to build institutional capacities for the inspection, surveillance and control of containers.

"In the various instances, the aim was to improve trade security and facilitate standards and controls at the borders through training and exchanges.", the National Customs Directorate said in a statement.

The Container Control Programme (CCP) was established by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The initiative has a global scope and aims to strengthen structures and processes and help States minimize the exploitation of maritime containers for illicit drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime activities.

In order to achieve greater efficiency, the programme facilitates cooperation against crime between States and international bodies involved in regulating container traffic.

The Eastern Republic of Uruguay joined the program in 2022, and since then the initiative has been operating in the port of Montevideo.

The meeting ended with a visit by the participants to the container yard and the Cuenta del Plata Terminal (TCP) facilities. In addition, a presentation of the expansion project and protection capabilities was made at the company's facilities.
