Global organizations join forces to expedite cross-border transport of COVID-19 vaccines

-

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, two global organizations took the initiative to collaborate with each other to develop and implement the necessary plans to facilitate cross-border transportation of COVID-19 vaccines.

“The initiative is led by the World Customs Organization (OMA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO, United Nations Agency)”, cites the release.

The information details that the WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya and his ICAO counterpart Fang Liu issued a joint statement on 2 February 2021 calling for efforts to ensure the safety, security and efficient transportation of COVID-19 vaccines and associated equipment across borders.

“Through the digitalization and flexibility of export, transit and import processes in air cargo operations, including robust risk management mechanisms, our two organizations seek to significantly increase the speed at which vaccines can be delivered to the end user, while minimizing the risk of distribution of unsafe and falsified medical products,” the two officials said in the statement.

The joint statement outlines a series of measures to be implemented by governments with the aim of accelerating air cargo transport and the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Thus, in 2021, these organizations at the top of global administration took the initiative in an attempt to assist in the rapid and reliable distribution of vaccines from one country to another. Their goal is to ensure the safety of the transfer of medical products and to protect people from those that are of poor quality or imitation, when it comes to a global pandemic.
