New export duties scheme officially approved to boost the agro-industrial sector

For this purpose, Decree 526/2025, published in the Official Gazette, establishes the list of goods affected by the measure, among which the main chains of grain (soybeans, sunflowers, barley, wheat, corn and sorghum), as well as various meat productsIn each case, the corresponding new export duty rates are set.

The measure will come into effect effective August 1, 2025 and covers approximately 260 goods, classified according to their tariff code. Among the most representative products, the following stand out: significant reductions in percentages:

  • Beef and poultry: from 6,75% to 5%
  • Corn and sorghum: from 12% to 9,5%
  • Sunflower: from 7,5% to between 5,5% and 4%, depending on the case
  • Soybean: from 33% to 26%
  • Soy by-products: from 31% to 24,5%

These modifications seek to "balance the tax burden to promote the competitiveness and development of the Argentine agro-industrial sector."

According to the decree's recitals, the government maintains that the measure aims to "continue strengthening the agro-industrial sector's export drive through simplification, debureaucratization, reduction of procedures, trade facilitation, opening of new markets, and reduction of tax burdens that affect competitiveness." In this regard, it defines export duties as "a distorting tax which must be eliminated and which, to the extent that the fiscal surplus allows, will be reduced until they disappear."

Reduction as a permanent policy

In addition to setting new rates, Decree 526/2025 makes the benefits permanent. for the specific set of agro-industrial products detailed in the standard. Likewise, repeals Decree 436/2025, which had extended - until March 31, 2026 - the temporary application of reduced rates contemplated in article 2 of Decree 38/2025, including those corresponding to wheat and barley.

With this measure, the Executive Branch replaces the exceptional scheme with a stable and predictable regulatory framework, reaffirming its commitment to the progressive reduction of the tax burden on agro-industrial exports.

The strategic relevance of agriculture

The Argentine agro-industrial sector has a long and recognized history, both nationally and internationally. In other words, its role is key in generating foreign currency, regional development, and job creation. As highlighted by Decree 526/2025, the agro-industrial sector is one of the country's main economic drivers, with annual exports of nearly $48.000 million, of which 75% corresponds to the grain and meat chains.

The Government points out that "the measures adopted have resulted in an increase in exports of the products involved." Indeed, during 2024, the exported volumes of agro-industrial products grew 56%while his value increased by 26%. Just in the first semester of 2025, exports of wheat they grew a 29%those of sunflower un 26% and those of corn and soybean oil un 4%, according to official figures.
