Uruguayan exports grow 29% in August

Uruguayan goods exports (including free trade zones) registered an interannual growth of 1.8% in August. 29 percent, and totaled $1.231 million, according to a Foreign Trade report from Uruguay XXI released on Thursday (01.09.2022)

According to the document, in the cumulative January-August 2022 period, foreign sales reported an increase of 35 percent, valued at UDS 9.406 million.

The products with the highest incidence exportable were the soybean (USD 303 million), beef (USD 186 million), cellulose (USD 157 million), dairy products (USD 89 million) and beverage concentrate (USD 65 million).

Exports to China, Uruguay's main trading partner, decreased in the eighth month of 2022 ((1 percent in the year-on-year comparison) and stood at USD 230 million, the report detailed.

This result is explained by the fall in purchases of beef (26 percentage points) and meat by-products (33 percent), which were offset by the increase in purchases of soybeans and dairy products.

Regarding placements in Brazil grew 69 percent year-on-year and reached USD 183 million.

Argentina rose to third place in the ranking of export destinations in August, as its purchases multiplied by 137 percent and reached USD 77 million, mainly due to soybeans (37 percent of the total).

Meanwhile, sales to the European Union reported an eight percent year-on-year drop and stood at USD 75 million.

United States It was positioned as the fifth destination for Uruguayan goods, whose acquisitions were valued at USD 55 million, 47 percentage points above the value of August 2021. (Foreign Trade Report, August 2022)
