Argentina is in a position to restart the export of poultry meat to the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reported on Monday (31.01.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX). Service Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (Senasa).

Today, in a video meeting with authorities from Senasa, the General Directorate of Health and Food Safety (DG Santé) of The EU confirmed that the corrective measures taken by the Argentine body satisfy the observations made during the virtual audit at the end of 2020 and that upon receiving the formal note sent by our country, it will accept the lifting of the self-suspension of poultry meat exports that Argentina imposed on itself between March 13 and May 31 of this year.

The EU measure values the progress and guarantees offered by Senasa, which carried out a strenuous task to present a work plan with corrective measures and strengthening of controls and surveillance in the avian health system and certification of meat and poultry products.

"Today we have some very good news," said the president of the Center for Poultry Processing Companies (CEPA), Roberto Domenech, who also praised the "very important public-private work in which everyone is committed" to achieve this resumption of exports.

The businessman also congratulated Senasa "for the responsibility, speed and commitment with which it undertook this entire task."

The deficiencies in laboratory and passive surveillance detected by the EU virtual audit of the export system for meat and poultry products dated back to 2019 and previous years, so the Senasa decided to self-suspend exports to that destination from March 13 to May 31 of this year, which was accepted by the EU.. Senasa immediately began to work to correct the observations received from the previous administration, successfully completing the initiative.

During this time, there were various video meetings between the technical teams of the EU DG-Sante and Senasa. The latter made several improvements to the passive surveillance system, worked on in 2020 and implemented in 2021, and considered satisfactory by the European Union.
