Argentine Customs schedules training activities with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

El Director General of Customs, Eduardo Mallea, received again representatives of the Global Container Control Program (CCP), according to official sources reported this Friday (14.06.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The delegation was led by Nicolás Benza, CCP Coordinator for the Southern Cone, and César Schiaffino Davison, United Nations Expert Trainer, who together with the Director General of Customs established the agenda of training activities to strengthen capacities in topics such as risk analysis and the use of new technologies for container inspection.

At the meeting, which took place at the headquarters in Buenos Aires, Schiaffino and Benza requested the collaboration of the Argentine Customs Office so that agents of the agency could participate as trainers for the Port Control Units of the region. Mallea assured them: “Our commitment to the fight against drug trafficking is absolute. The General Directorate of Customs will provide assistance whenever the CCP requires it.”

National and regional effort

With this joint initiative, between June 10 and 13, the CCP conducted a training session in handling seals and inspection of containers in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires (AMBA). Narcotrafficking personnel from the department participated. Argentine Customs, together with agents from the customs of Uruguay and Paraguay.

“The training covered topics such as container selection criteria, carrier data analysis, and types of container contamination. One unit also focused on New Psychoactive Substances and Synthetic Opioids. The technical assistance was complemented with practical activities carried out at the port terminals of Zárate and Exolgan," the Customs Office said in the statement.

According to the same official source, the CCP aims to strengthen the capabilities of customs, police and other law enforcement authorities to combat illicit trafficking. The official also stressed that, in our country, the aforementioned program is implemented thanks to the support of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States Department of State.
