The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is urging governments to find alternative solutions to implementing mandatory quarantines for all travelers entering their territories as a measure to control the importation of COVID-19 cases, according to a new analysis.
El report, released this Wednesday (13.04.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX), explains that the request is due to the fact that Approximately 86% of travelers are concerned about being quarantined during a trip and 69% of travelers are considering not traveling if they will be involved in a 14-day quarantine period.
"To protect aviation's ability to be a catalyst for economic recovery, we must not make the situation even worse by quarantine measures that make travel impractical. We need a solution for safe travel.", said Alexandre de Juniac, head of IATA.
Faced with the situation, the IATA's temporary approach based on risk layers to give governments the confidence to open their borders without quarantining those arriving includes the following:
- Prevent travel by symptomatic people with temperature screening and other measures.
- Address the risks of asymptomatic travellers with governments that manage a robust health declaration system and vigorous contact tracing.
