Honduras: Bidding envelopes are being opened to improve customs services in Puerto Cortés

The Government of the Republic of Honduras is implementing the  Puerto Cortés Customs Modernization Project. In this framework, today (21.06.2021) the envelopes of the tender for the acquisition of equipment, execution and administration of the comprehensive non-intrusive customs inspection system for this department of the main port located on the Atlantic coast of Honduras.

The Customs Administration announced that the implementation and start-up of this project will be carried out with unified technology standards following the international requirements contained within the SAFE Framework of the World Customs Organization. Its objective is to strengthen the complete inspection of goods entering and leaving the Central American country in order to detect smuggling, illicit currency trafficking, the promotion of security through institutional coordination of control and supervision, response times and attention to all cargo transport units.

The project is expected to reduce the average time for customs inspection of goods from 19 to 6 hours and double the amount of products seized due to illegal and smuggling activities. This will allow Puerto Cortés to provide a low-cost, high-quality customs service and become a competitive regional logistics hub, as container traffic is expected to triple at the port by 2021.

The event will take place this Monday at 2:15 (Honduras) in the Honduran Air Force Club Room.
