Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, also known as as La Mesa International Airport, in Honduras, reopened on December 23, after remaining closed for 47 days as a result of the flooding caused by Hurricanes Eta and Iota.
This is what President Juan Orlando Hernández said on his Twitter account: “Mission accomplished! Many doubted it when we promised, they said it was impossible, but the Ramón Villeda Morales airport is reopening its doors. This demonstrates the commitment and dedication of a work team that has given everything to the program.”
From it, International passenger flights will be re-established from Wednesday, December 30, after the rehabilitation of domestic flights, reported Honduras Customs.
Currently, travelers are arriving via a connection with the Juan Manuel Gálvez airport located on the island of Roatán, in the Caribbean Sea, 50 kilometers from the northern coast of Honduras.
For the reopening of the Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, the main and busiest air terminal in Honduras, emergency teams and government agencies worked tirelessly to restore normality, although despite the aforementioned reestablishment, life will take time to return to its usual course.
