Phytosanitary alert declared for two bedbug infestations

-

The National Government has declared a phytosanitary alert throughout the country due to the possibility of the entry of two pests of bedbugs (Halyomorpha halys and Bagrada hilaris).

This is established by the Resolution 70 / 2019, published this Wednesday (30.1.2019) in the Official Gazette, where it points out the purpose of strengthening the actions, procedures and phytosanitary measures that contribute to preventing the introduction of both pests into Argentina.

Mandatory reporting

The rule establishes the mandatory reporting to Senasa if the presence or suspicious damage is detected. of these pests, in order to establish a Contingency Plan with the necessary phytosanitary measures to eradicate them.

The areas of greatest risk of entry into the country are the customs zones, due to the ability of these insects in their adult stage to form clusters of individuals that take shelter in any type of merchandise, preferably non-plants, behaving as contaminating species of containers, machinery and automobiles, clothing, spare parts, among others. In addition, in the adult stage they can also seek refuge in storage or consolidation places such as warehouses, sheds, distribution centers, etc.

Travelers and trade operators

Senasa asks travelers to thoroughly check luggage and vehicles before returning to detect early the presence of insects that may be hidden among belongings.

International trade operators must pay special attention to containers, warehouses and all types of storage or consolidation sites for goods.

In case of detection or suspicion of the presence of the pest, Senasa must be informed via email [email protected].
