The Government expanded the list of medical equipment and sanitary supplies during the period of the emergency declared as a result of the advance of the coronavirus, through the Decree 745/2020.
The regulation, published this Monday (14.09.2020) in the Official Gazette, indicates that goods affected by the reduction of tariffs to 0% are also exempt from paying the statistical tax on import operations.
In its grounds, the decree states that, given the health emergency situation taking place in the country, and in order not to affect the health care of the population as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, ""It is necessary to adopt new measures in addition to those already adopted since the beginning of this situation."
To this end, it states that "it is necessary to guarantee the population access to certain critical supplies in order to mitigate its spread and its health impact."
On April 2, tariffs were eliminated for a set of 52 products, and on May 11, that number was expanded to 75, and today to 87 medical supplies.
Among the goods exempted from import duties on this occasion are ethyl, propyl and isopropyl alcohol; surgical gloves; masks of the type used by surgeons in operations; extracorporeal circulation pumps; electrocardiographs; ultrasound machines; magnetic resonance imaging diagnostic devices; tomographic scanners; and gamma cameras.
Also included are endoscopes; audiometers; pulse oximeters; syringes; instruments and devices for blood transfusion or infusion; external defibrillators that operate only in automatic mode; infusion pumps; laryngoscopes; oxygen therapy devices; iron lungs; gas masks; automatic cardioverter defibrillators; cardioverters; and clinical thermometers.
The provisions of this decree shall apply immediately.
