Argentine Railway Day

On August 30, 1857, the first railway line in our country was inaugurated. It ran from the current Plaza Lavalle in Buenos Aires to La Floresta station.                            

The locomotive arrived from London and was christened "The Porteña". It came with a twin that was called "La Argentina". The wagons that would complete the train also arrived. 

It was a small locomotive, which It had been built in 1854 in England. and who was in turn a veteran of the Crimean War.

It was transported to Buenos Aires on the steamer Borland, docking at the Buenos Aires pier on Christmas 1856.

A few weeks later he paraded through the streets of the city in a huge carriage, pulled by 30 horses.
