Chile participates in the WCO Political Commission

The National Director of Chilean Customs, Claudio Sepúlveda, participated in the 78th session of the Political Commission of the World Customs Organization (WCO), from December 4 to 6, 2017, as Vice President of the Americas and the Caribbean, a position that the Chilean Customs has held since 2016.

During the sessions of the Political Commission of the multilateral organization, they addressed the Major issues that concern customs and international trade currently focusing on six priorities:

  1. Challenges involved in the implementation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA)
  2. Complexities brought about by the growing global e-commerce
  3. Border security work and cooperation with other agencies
  4. Cooperation between Customs and Excise
  5. Illegal financial flows
  6. Performance measurement.

Likewise, the National Director of Chilean Customs, who participated with the Head of the Department of International Affairs, Fabián Villarroel, highlighted "that following the evolution of international trends is an imperative for Chilean Customs, and that the work currently being carried out in our Service, in particular, The work being carried out to implement Law 20.997, which modernised customs legislation, the information exchange agreement with the SII and the work on postal shipments, are in perfect harmony with the issues discussed in this multilateral instance.l ".
