The Brazilian Senate approved on Friday (11.5.2018) an agreement reached between Brazil and China in 2012 that aims to promote cooperation between the customs administrations of both countries, to ensure proper application of legislation, security in logistics in international trade, prevention and investigation and combating illegal customs acts, official sources reported on Friday.
The Brazilian government released a release According to which "this type of agreement reinforces the growing trend of cooperation between countries, mainly after the commitments assumed in the field of the World Trade Organization through the Trade Facilitation Agreement, as well as contributes to the Modernization of customs methods and processes through the exchange of experiences between the parties involved."
For Brazil, the agreement in question "supports the exchange of customs information relative, mainly in cases where substantial damage may be caused to the economy, public health, including the security of the international trade logistics chain or other vital interests of both countries."
For the Brazilian government, the approval of the agreement "It is very important" because China is its largest trading partner. and in 2017 it accounted for 22 percent of all the country's exports ($4.700 billion) and 18 percent ($27.300 billion) of imports.
With the agreement, the Brazilian Customs will be able to use information to combat fraud, as well as sign a mutual recognition agreement between its authorized economic operator programs.
The agreement strengthens the relationship between Brazil and China, especially in the customs field, on a bilateral and multilateral basis. This week, 25 Brazilian auditors traveled to China, invited by the Asian country, to exchange experiences for 20 days on topics of shared interest between the two customs authorities.
According to the Brazilian government, actions like this "concretize the mutual interest of Brazil and China in strengthening the ties of friendship between the two nations."
