-

During the World Economic Forum taking place in the Swiss city of Davos, the governments of Argentina and Switzerland signed a memorandum of understanding to develop railway projects.

"We have a commitment from the highest political level to improve the lives of Argentines and the memorandum we signed with Switzerland is the result of this commitment," said Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie after signing the agreement.

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leutard, signed the agreement on behalf of her country.

The initiatives will focus on Assist Argentina with infrastructure and technology to signal and electrify railway lines.

The agreement "with a pioneering country and expert in engineering and development (…) is in line with the transformation of metropolitan trains that we launched with an ambitious project such as the Regional Express Network (RER)", said Guillermo Dietrich.

The memorandum also provides for reciprocal visits, on-the-job training and technical advice for the design and manufacture of the new railway infrastructure.

Within the framework of the Regional Express Network (RER), the Government claims that it is making the largest investment in railways in recent times with the renovation of tracks and stations, the electrification of diesel lines, the creation of underpasses, the construction of three viaducts and the installation of automatic braking on all lines.
