Argentina and Uruguay signed an Action Plan for ARM

-

The Directors of the Customs of Argentina and Uruguay signed the Action Plan on the Mutual Recognition Agreement (ARM) of its Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programs within the framework of the last Regional Conference of General Directors of Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean, in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The AEO has become a strategic partner for customs in the current scenario of constant growth in international trade and the risks to which the supply chain is exposed. Furthermore, one of the great challenges for customs around the world is to modernize in order to assume an active role and guarantee the security of the entire logistics chain involved in foreign trade operations, in addition to facilitating legitimate trade.

The signed work plan contains the understanding to move through Six phases to achieve an ARM, and a schedule for the execution of the activities that must be completed. These six phases are: Comparison of OAS Programs, joint validations, identification of benefits, discussion of operational procedures, definition of indicators and conclusion of the MRA text.

The work to be carried out in this area will increase mutual trust, contributing to more effective customs control by increasing the level of customs, tax and trade securityto the foreign trade operations carried out between both countries.
